I'm still trying to wrap my head around the tragic loss of Albert "Droopie" Gilbert. I can’t stop thinking about how this young man, who seemed to light up every room he walked into, could be taken so senselessly. It's particularly devastating knowing he was working so hard, juggling two jobs, and still managed to bring smiles and joy to those around him. I recently came across discussions about the string of violent incidents happening around that time in Lafayette, and it’s terrifying. Albert’s case, along with those others, should be a wake-up call for the community about the need to address and curb gun violence. I feel deeply for his family and friends — no one should have to endure this kind of loss. Looking at his photos and hearing stories from people who knew him, it’s clear he had a positive impact on so many lives. Just hoping for justice and some peace for Albert's loved ones.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the circumstances surrounding Droopie's (Albert Gilbert) tragic death. From what friends have shared, he was such a light in their lives, working tirelessly to make ends meet with two jobs. It's just so sad to think that someone so dedicated and full of life could be taken away so abruptly. I wonder how the community's broader issue with gun violence factored into that night. It’s like everyone’s been saying, 2015 was just a horrendously violent year in Lafayette. It's terrifying to imagine the fear that must have been hanging over the community, knowing gun violence was becoming too common. For Albert’s family and friends, I hope they find some comfort in keeping his memory alive and continue to highlight these pressing issues. Is there anything the local community is doing now to address these types of incidents and prevent future tragedies?
