I’ve been reading more about Frank Holmes and it's devastating to think about how quickly life can change in just a few moments. Being a patrolman back in 1902 must have been incredibly challenging, with fewer resources and support than officers have today. What strikes me is the absolute courage it took to respond to that call alone, in the middle of the night, without the technology we rely on nowadays. I can’t help but feel for his family and the entire Granite City community. I wonder how they coped back then, especially after the acquittal. It must have felt like justice slipped through their fingers. It’s baffling how someone could be acquitted despite the circumstances, and it definitely leaves a heavy question mark about the trial and investigation. Does anyone know more about the trial or why the suspect might have been acquitted? It seems there might be more to uncover there to fully understand this case.
