I’ve been reading up on Patrolman Joseph Driscoll’s tragic story, and I keep thinking about the Dugout confrontation. It’s chilling to imagine these brave officers walking up to that smoky hideout, not knowing what ambush awaited them. Patrolman Driscoll and others put themselves in harm’s way, showing incredible courage. It's sad when an officer doesn’t make it home to their family for simply doing their job. It’s a testament to Patrolman Driscoll's dedication that he pursued the Car Barn Bandits despite the danger. His widow, Julia, and the rest of his family must have endured so much pain during that time. The loss of a loved one in such a violent way must be unbearable. I can’t help but admire the brave officers like Driscoll who risked everything. Their sacrifices should always be remembered and honored. If anyone knows more about how the Chicago Police Department commemorated his star, I’d love to learn more.
