It’s been over a decade since that tragic day at NIU, and I still think about the stories of those who lost their lives, especially Gayle Dubowski. From what I've read, Gayle was deeply involved in her church and had a passion for music and theater. It's hard not to imagine the bright future she had ahead of her, filled with her passions and the love she shared with those around her. I keep returning to the idea of memorializing her and the other victims. It seems like Gayle brought joy and a strong sense of community through her church and interests. I hope that wherever she is remembered—be it through scholarships, music events, or church gatherings—that her spirit continues to inspire others to live with the same kindness and enthusiasm she showed. If anyone has heard of any ongoing memorials or initiatives in her honor, I’d love to hear about them. It’s important to keep their memories alive in meaningful ways. Sending love to her family and all those still mourning.
