It's been over a decade since Rey Dorantes lost his life on a night that was supposed to be just like any other. This young man was simply enjoying a peaceful moment on his porch, an everyday scene that unfolded in countless homes, yet this time ended in unspeakable tragedy. I can't imagine the immense pain his family must feel, especially knowing that justice still eludes them. What's equally disturbing is the continued silence from potential witnesses or others with information. I can't help but wonder if fear of gang retaliation is keeping people from coming forward. Rey deserves justice, and it’s disheartening to see how fear can stifle truth. Do any of you think there will ever come a time when communities can truly unite to break this cycle of violence? What more can we do to support the Dorantes family and others who are still fighting for answers?

I've been following Rey Dorantes' case for a while, and I can’t stop thinking about how losing someone so young leaves a community in turmoil. I live a couple of neighborhoods over, and I remember hearing about the shooting back in 2013. It just seems so senseless that a 14-year-old could be caught up in something so dangerous just because he was on his front porch. What really stands out to me is the bravery of Rey's father, Esteban. It must be incredibly painful to face each day without answers, yet he’s still out there, doing everything he can to make a change and prevent other families from experiencing the same loss. For a parent that's unimaginable strength. Does anyone here know if there have been any new developments or community initiatives since Rey's passing? Chicago has seen way too much violence, and I'm hoping to hear that something positive might be happening, at least in Rey’s memory. Sending love to his family and everyone who knew Rey. His story has definitely left an impact on all of us.
