I've been following the case of Demond Avant, and something that's really been bothering me is the impact this has had on his school community. The Academy of Scholastic Achievement sounds like a place where high-risk teens can really turn their lives around, and from what I’ve read, Demond was thriving there. Losing a student in such a violent way must be incredibly hard on his classmates and teachers. It’s difficult to imagine trying to focus on learning when you’ve lost one of your own. I can't help but think about how this event might affect the other students’ sense of safety and their hopes for the future. It's truly unfair for young people trying to make a better life for themselves to have something like this erupt into their daily lives. Sending strength to everyone impacted, especially those kids trying to stay on the right path in a community struggling with violence.
