I’ve been following Jeremy Salinas's case closely, and something that's been on my mind is the role of social media in escalating the situation. It’s devastating to think about how Jeremy’s stolen bike was posted online to taunt him and his friends. Social media can be such a double-edged sword; it connects us, but as we see in Jeremy’s case, it can also be used maliciously to provoke and incite violence. My heart aches for his family and friends who had to witness such a public display of disrespect towards Jeremy, even after his passing. I hope more light is shed on how these platforms might play a role in these tragic events and that steps are taken to prevent other innocent lives from being impacted in this way. Has anyone else thought about the power dynamics at play with social media in situations like this?
