It's been over seven years since Valentia J. Fresco's tragic death, and I still can't get over the heartbreak that his family must endure every day. I came across some discussions about how the legal process unfolded after Valentia's murder. It seems like there was a lot of community outrage about the way the authorities handled the communication with his family initially—and rightfully so.
Rosie Blake, Valentia’s mom, deserved answers and support from the beginning, not the confusion and frustration that came instead. When a family loses someone so suddenly and violently, the least they deserve is clarity about what happened. It's horrifying to think about how isolated and angry they must have felt during those first major moments after Valentia's passing. Processing grief is hard enough without feeling like you're in the dark about your loved one's last moments.
Now, seeing the guards indicted and the community rallying behind Valentia's family gives me some hope that maybe justice will be served. It’s a small step, but a necessary one in the long journey for the family to find closure. I believe I speak for many when I say we’re all still watching closely and hoping that, one day, the Frescos can find some peace. Thoughts are continually with Valentia’s family, especially his young boys who lost their father far too soon.
