I've been thinking a lot about the impact of community policing failures in cases like Eddy Brooks’. It's incredibly frustrating to see how the intentions behind programs like CAPS can fall apart in practice. It’s clear the community wants to make a difference, but how do you do that without adequate support and resources? I can't imagine the pain Eddy’s family must feel, knowing that the issues were acknowledged but not acted upon. It’s a tragic reminder of how much work still needs to be done to address the systemic problems in neighborhoods like West Humboldt Park. Does anyone know if there’s been a push to restore or revitalize these community programs since Eddy's passing? It feels like something needs to change to truly honor his memory and protect others in the community.
