I recently came across the case of Jacques Mack and Corey Hill Jr. and it has been weighing heavily on my mind. I can only imagine the pain their families are still enduring. The fact that the suspect brazenly stood over them and continued shooting is chilling and deeply concerning in terms of the violence gripping the neighborhood. What really shocked me was the lack of surveillance footage from that day. I know North Lawndale has its challenges, but considering it was broad daylight and close to a main road, you’d think there would be some footage or witness accounts that could lead to answers. For anyone familiar with the area, is there something preventing more community cooperation with police efforts, or is it just fear of reprisal? We talk a lot about how frustrating it is that these cases go unsolved, but I’m trying to understand the barriers to justice for these young men. Would love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions on how residents can feel safer speaking up.
