I want to express my deepest condolences to the Sivells family and all who knew Matthew. It's just devastating to see how violence rips apart lives and communities. Baltimore in 2007 was such a tough place with all the crime and violence, and it puts things into perspective about how vital community resources are. Baltimore was trying with things like violence interrupters and supporting at-risk youth, but there were just so many barriers. I read somewhere about how easy it was for these guns to fall into the wrong hands. It makes me think about how crucial it is to tackle that part of the issue—stopping the illegal flow of firearms. It's like, how can we make real progress if we can't even address such a big part of the problem? I really hope Matthew’s story, and those of others, spur some change, though it’s so tragic these discussions often come from such painful losses.
