I've been thinking a lot about the role the community plays in cases like Christopher Janel Davis’s. It's so disheartening to hear that despite the pain his family must be enduring, there’s been such a lack of witnesses willing to come forward to help solve this case. I totally understand that fear can be a huge factor, especially in neighborhoods where violence is more prevalent. But without people stepping up, how can we expect real change? It makes you wonder how we can create a safer environment where witnesses feel protected enough to speak out. Maybe stronger community-police relationships or anonymous tip lines could make a difference? My thoughts are with Davis’s family and friends, and I really hope they find the answers and justice they deserve.
