I’ve been following Zechariah Lee Hallback's case and can’t stop thinking about the impact his loss must have had on his family and friends. It’s really difficult to comprehend how violence has become such a pervasive part of life for so many in Baltimore. I recently read some statistics about crime rates in places like Sandtown-Winchester, and it's frightening. I think about the challenges every parent and teen must face in neighborhoods where gunshots and violence are a regular occurrence. What's truly sad is how these young lives are cut short, and with each case that stays unsolved, it's like a part of the community's humanity is lost too. At a time when Zechariah should have been planning his future, his family is left searching for answers. The systemic problems feel so overwhelming, and it's hard to see how any single effort can make a difference. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy and with those working to change the narrative for Baltimore's future.
