Thinking of Hardy Burns today. When I read about how he was found on 15th Street and Baker Avenue, it really got me reflecting on the places we consider safe and how quickly that can change. These streets, just regular places where people walk their dogs or greet neighbors—turning into crime scenes is deeply unsettling. It seems like such a painful contrast. How do the families and friends of the victims cope with this transformation of familiar spaces into sites of tragedy? It’s hard to imagine the emotional toll it must take. Some of us are in a position to help, even if it’s just by paying attention and sharing anything out of the ordinary. We owe the victims and their loved ones at least that much. What can we do to support the community in healing and regaining a sense of safety?
