I’ve been following the case of Shavontae Towers and something struck me about the neighborhood where everything went down. Harvey, IL isn’t particularly known for its safety, but I couldn't help but wonder about the challenges this area faces, especially with gun violence. It’s terrible to think that someone could be taken away in such a violent manner right where they lived. I'm also curious if there were any security measures in place at Shavontae’s apartment complex, like cameras or even security personnel.
It makes me think about how important community support and vigilance can be. I hope that they are taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Does anyone here live in or near Harvey, and can share if there have been any changes in the neighborhood after this tragic incident? Does anyone else find it odd how the apartment building's security cameras didn't capture anything from that night? From what I understand, the cameras were operational and positioned around the entrances. You’d think they'd have footage of who came and went around the time Shavontae was found.
