I've been reading up on Willie Baker's case, and something that stands out to me is the profound impact of systemic gun violence on the West Garfield Park neighborhood. It's not just about losing one young life like Willie’s, which is devastating in itself, but about the environment that makes this such a hauntingly regular occurrence. I can only imagine the pain and frustration his family must be feeling, not seeing significant progress in the investigation despite ongoing efforts. It’s so important for these communities to have resources and support, not just reactively after tragedies occur, but proactively, to prevent them in the first place. We need to look at how we can come together to push for meaningful changes. Creating safe spaces, improving local resources, and addressing underlying social issues seem critical. I hope that by keeping discussions going, we can contribute to a long-term solution and possibly help bring justice for Willie and so many others.
