Has anyone looked into how well the search efforts were coordinated back in 1971 for Donald Smith and the others? I’m curious about what kind of resources they had access to at the time, like boats, divers, or even aerial support. I’ve read that local fishermen sometimes helped out in these searches—did that happen in this case? The conditions in Frenchman’s Bay can’t have been easy, especially in March, so I’m wondering if maybe the weather hampered the search efforts too. It just seems like it must’ve been incredibly challenging to carry out an effective search and recovery operation given the technology and resources available then. Any insight would be appreciated.

Has anyone else looked into the supposed sightings of Donald Smith following the accident? I came across an old newspaper article from a few years after the incident reporting that a local fisherman claimed to have seen someone resembling Donald working on a boat in another coastal town. The details were pretty vague, but it seemed credible at the time. Could it have been a case of mistaken identity, or is it possible that Donald survived and started a new life? Given the dangerous conditions that day and the strong tides, it seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened. I'm curious if anyone else has heard similar stories or has more information about these sightings. Maybe there's more to it than we initially thought.

Has anyone else come across any local legends or superstitions about Stave Island? I was reading up on the Donald Smith case from 1971, and I can't shake the feeling that there's more to this area than meets the eye. Even though it's been over 50 years, I'm curious if the local community still talks about what happened or if there are any eerie stories surrounding Frenchman’s Bay. Sometimes these places have a history or superstitions attached to them that aren't widely known. Does anyone know if there’s anything like that in this case? Maybe some locals have insights that didn’t make it to the official reports.
