I’ve been reading into the Mack Sturgill case and something that puzzles me is the condition of the boat. The reports say the boat was only 16 feet long and got tangled in a rope from a lobster trap before capsizing. Was the boat properly equipped to deal with potential hazards in the water? I’m curious if there were any past issues with lobster traps or old fishing gear in that area. Could it have been avoided if there had been better regulations or precautions? It seems like such a small oversight led to a huge tragedy. Anyone familiar with boating regulations back then or know if things have improved since?
Has anyone else read about the strange details surrounding Mack "Red" Sturgill’s disappearance? I find it really odd that in such a tragic boating accident, they recovered the bodies of two passengers, but not the other three. Frenchman’s Bay isn't exactly known for its strong currents or vast depths. Plus, Stave Island isn’t that far from the mainland. I wonder if the currents were underestimated or if something else could've contributed to the difficulty in finding them. Does anyone know if there were any subsequent underwater topography surveys done since 1971 that might shed some light on this puzzle? It's just strange to think how three men simply vanished in such a relatively confined area. Curious if anyone with local knowledge has any insights or theories?
