Mack Sturgill, also known as "Red," went missing on March 25, 1971, during a tragic boating incident in Frenchman's Bay, Maine. Sturgill, along with five others, was clamming near Stave Island when their 16-foot outboard motorboat became entangled in a rope from an old lobster trap. This caused the boat to capsize in the rough waters, throwing all six occupants into the ocean. While one passenger was able to swim to safety on a nearby island, Sturgill and four others were lost.
