I’ve been following the case of Decarlo S. Douglas for a while, and I can't stop thinking about the young ages of the suspects involved—just 14 and 16 years old. It’s hard to imagine how two teenagers could be implicated in something so violent. It makes me worry about what’s happening in their lives or communities to lead them down such a path. My heart goes out to Decarlo’s family, who now have to process this painful loss while knowing the suspects are just kids themselves. It also emphasizes the significant role that communities and support systems need to play to guide youth before tragedies like this occur. It’s a tough conversation but one that definitely needs to happen to prevent future violence.
