Did anyone else hear about the ballistics report from Sergeant Grigley's case? I was reading through some old articles and forum posts, and it turns out the gun used in the crime was previously lifted from an undercover sheriff’s deputy. It just makes me think about the issues with securing weapons, especially ones that end up on the streets in the wrong hands. I can't imagine how frustrating that must have been for the deputy, knowing that a stolen weapon was used in such a tragic event. I feel deeply for Sgt. Grigley’s family, who had to endure such a senseless loss due in part to this failure. Has anyone seen if there were any follow-up actions taken to address this kind of issue at the department level? It would be interesting to know if anything changed after this case.

Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the types of crimes that involve young offenders like in the tragic case of Sergeant Melvin Grigley. The fact that the shooter was only 16 raises so many questions about how these kids end up involved in such violent crimes. It’s devastating to realize how young some offenders are when they make choices that not only ruin their own lives but also cause unimaginable pain to innocent families. I can’t imagine how Sergeant Grigley’s family must feel knowing that someone so young played a part in his death. And it’s really sad to see how the ripple effects of such violence extend beyond just those present. There’s an urgent need for us as a society to address the factors that push these young people towards a path of crime. We owe it to families like the Grigleys to look for ways to prevent these tragedies in the future. It’s a harsh reminder of the reality faced by officers, even off-duty, and how unpredictable and dangerous their lives can be. Just wanted to share my thoughts. Would love to hear what others think about involving youth in severe crimes and how we might prevent more of these situations from happening. Stay safe everyone.
