I've been thinking about the heartbreaking impact the murders had on Carter and Natalie's schools and local youth community. Attending school right after such a traumatic event must have been incredibly tough for their friends and classmates. It’s hard enough being a teenager, and experiencing the loss of peers in such a horrific way must have been emotionally devastating. From what I've read, resources were set up in both schools, like grief counselors and memorial services, but it really does make you wonder if more could be done to help students navigate these shocking tragedies. What can communities and schools do better to support young people facing this kind of violence and loss? Are there programs that have worked well in similar situations that other schools can adopt? I remember reading that honoring the memories of those lost, like through a sports event or a dedicated space at school, can be therapeutic for students. Anyone have thoughts or experiences with this? My heart goes out to Carter’s and Natalie’s friends, who had to return to classrooms without them.
