I can't get over the strength Amy showed in those last moments. To think she grabbed her kids and fled to what she thought was a safe place—a fire station. It breaks my heart that this refuge wasn't enough to keep her safe. What adds to this tragedy is knowing there was a history of domestic violence. Why does it take such a shocking event for these situations to get the attention they need? Her friends were right to speak out and highlight that she was smart and fearless. Her actions were the epitome of bravery. For her children's sake, I hope they grow up knowing their mom's strong spirit. It pains me that they were witness to such a horror, but maybe knowing how hard she fought for them will be a comfort in the years to come. This case serves as a stark reminder of why we need to fight harder for protective measures against domestic violence. We owe it to Amy and countless others like her.
