I've been following the case of Keith Sandefur and just can't stop thinking about the role stress might have played in those final moments at the firing range. To serve as a police chief for 23 years and then face criminal charges must have been overwhelming. It raises questions about how stress and potential mental health struggles are handled for those in high-pressure law enforcement positions. It’s clear that Keith dedicated much of his life to the community, and it’s hard not to wonder if he felt he had nowhere to turn amidst his legal issues. I hope that going forward, we can remember the good he did for Cairo while also advocating for better support systems for officers facing personal or legal challenges. My thoughts are with his family and everyone in the community feeling this loss.
