On the afternoon of November 24, 2012, James Johnson, a 22-year-old Black man, was shot multiple times in the upper torso and head around 1:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of Laurens Street in Baltimore. Officers who responded found him gravely wounded; he was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m.
Baltimore City Homicide detectives opened an investigation but initially had few leads. Police reported no identified suspect and no known motive. As of late 2023 there have been no public announcements of an arrest or identified suspect, and the killing remains unsolved.
