On a Saturday afternoon in late autumn, the life of a young man was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore. James Johnson, a 22-year-old Black male, was shot multiple times in the upper torso and head on November 24, 2012. The fatal incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Laurens Street.
Responding to a report of a shooting, police officers arrived at the scene to find Johnson gravely wounded. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, James Johnson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:08 p.m.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Baltimore City Homicide Detectives launched an investigation into the violent death of the young man. However, the initial stages of the inquiry yielded few leads.
At the time, police reported that they had not identified a suspect and had no known motive for the killing. The search for answers and for those responsible for this act of violence had just begun, leaving a community to mourn and grapple with the sudden loss. As of late 2023, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the murder of James Johnson, leaving his case unsolved.
