Hey everyone, I've been following the case of Demario Kentrell Parrish, and I've been thinking about the role of bystanders and the instinct to help in dangerous situations. It's both admirable and incredibly risky. Here we have Parrish, who saw a woman in distress and felt compelled to step in to de-escalate a heated argument. I can't help but feel for his family—he was truly brave and selfless. I wonder if there are ways we can encourage intervention in a safer manner or better train people on how to handle such situations without putting themselves in harm's way. It's a delicate balance between wanting to help and maintaining personal safety. Maybe this tragedy will encourage communities to offer workshops or seminars on conflict resolution for bystanders. Really hoping that the ordinance proposed for 24/7 surveillance and improved lighting will pass. It might not prevent every issue, but having that deterrent and sense of accountability can be a small step towards a safer environment for everyone. How do you all feel about bystander intervention training? Do you think it could be effective?
