Deputy Sheriff Dwight Lynn Hall, 31, was killed on April 11, 1979, in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, while on duty. He had responded to a report of a suspicious person sitting in an out-of-state vehicle at a county park after closing hours. During questioning, the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee; Deputy Hall pursued and tackled him. In the ensuing struggle the suspect seized Deputy Hall’s pistol and fatally shot him.
The suspect was a 15-year-old juvenile who had stolen the vehicle and come to Florida after being wanted in Indiana for a prior stabbing. Deputy Hall had served with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for two years and left a wife and two children.
If anyone has information about Deputy Hall, his final call that night, or remembers the scene at the park, please share what you know.
