I’ve been thinking about how many tragedies unfolded in Baltimore in 2014, particularly Tashawn Roberts’ case. What really tugs at my mind is the deep community impact these events have, especially when the victims are young men who should have had promising futures ahead. Tashawn was only 30, and being taken away so suddenly leaves such a void.
The area around East Madison Street has seen more than its fair share of violence. It’s heartbreaking to think about the families and communities who live in constant fear and the struggle they face in seeing any real change. The lack of trust between residents and the police makes it so much harder to find answers or see justice served.
I can't help but wonder how much potential is lost with each life taken so senselessly. Each victim, like Tashawn, was undoubtedly more than a statistic — they had dreams, relationships, and aspirations. Holding onto hope that one day, community resources will improve and provide the support needed to prevent these tragedies from continuing. My thoughts are with Tashawn’s loved ones and all those affected by the violence during that year.
