Christopher Michael Blessett, 25, was shot on March 26, 2018, on Mohawk Street near a Westside apartment complex in Jacksonville, Florida. Officers arriving around 7:45 p.m. found him lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to the hospital and died two days later.

Prosecutors say the shooting began after an exchange of words between Blessett and Derrick Dewayne Lewis, who was outside his mother’s home. Lewis allegedly got into a vehicle, followed Blessett, and fired three close-range shots, striking him in the back. Lewis was later arrested and faced charges related to the killing.
