I’ve been following the case of Abebe Bent, and something that’s really been on my mind is the safety of the community in West Oakland. It’s terrifying to think about a child being present during such a violent act — it really underscores how vulnerable many families are in that area. Was this a random act of violence or was he targeted for some reason? The fact that no suspects have been identified yet makes me wonder about the resources being put into solving this case. It’s been years, and the thought of the perpetrator possibly walking free, knowing justice hasn’t been served, must be so difficult for those who knew and loved Abebe. I've been following the tragic case of Abebe Bent, and something that really strikes me is the presence of the young child during the shooting. It just breaks my heart to think about how terrifying that must have been, both for the child and the women in the car.
