Does anyone else find it odd that the *Chica* sank without any clear cause? I mean, we're talking about experienced fishermen who were familiar with those waters. The fact that only a hatch cover was ever found leaves so much room for speculation. Were there any reports of bad weather that day? Could this have been a case of equipment failure, or something more sinister? I wonder if there were any distress calls made from the boat before it went down. It's unsettling that no official explanation has been given after all these years. Anyone with knowledge of typical gillnetting practices around Cape Elizabeth have any thoughts?
