Does anyone have information on the weather conditions on February 1, 1982, around the area where the *Chica* went down? I'm curious how much they might have played a role in the sinking. I know it's been decades, but I've heard reports that the weather was particularly rough that day. Maybe it was just a freak storm or something that wasn't fully anticipated? I'm trying to understand if anyone knows more about the weather aspect or if the guys had experience navigating in tough conditions. Also, is it typical for just a single hatch cover to be the only thing found after a boat sinks? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone dug into the weather conditions on the day *Chica* went down? I've been reading through the case and, knowing New England weather, I wonder if something unexpected could have hit them. February waters off Cape Elizabeth can be unpredictable, and if there was a sudden storm or rough waves that day, it could explain why the boat sank so suddenly. It's strange that only a hatch cover was found, though. You'd think more debris would've surfaced, especially from a vessel that size. It's a haunting mystery. Would love to hear if anyone has more info or thoughts on this angle.
