Just read about the tragic murder of Night Watchman George Whybark in 1910, and it got me thinking about the brave men and women who risk their lives in the line of duty. Whybark's story is one of true heroism—he faced down danger without hesitation. I'm particularly struck by the fact that even though he was mortally wounded, he still managed to return fire. Such courage is beyond admirable. It’s a sobering reminder of the risks faced by those who protect us, day in and day out. Whybark’s dedication to his role is something that must have left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him. My thoughts are with his family and the community that felt his loss so profoundly. Let us not forget the price he paid while trying to make Santa Clara a safer place for everyone.
