I came across some old news articles about the tragic spree in Los Angeles in 1973, and I can’t stop thinking about Versell Bennett’s bravery. From what I read, he was working as a security guard when he crossed paths with Bonner during that terrible day. The sheer courage it must’ve taken to try and stop someone as dangerous as Bonner is truly remarkable. I’m deeply sorry for the pain his family had to endure. It’s evident that Bennett didn't hesitate to put himself in harm's way, probably hoping to save others from Bonner's violent actions. It's haunting to think about what could have happened had he succeeded, though he paid the ultimate price. Does anyone know if there have been any memorials or dedications made in his honor? It seems like his actions should be remembered and recognized.

I came across the story of Versell Bennett while reading about the tragic events that transpired in Los Angeles on April 22, 1973, and I felt compelled to share my thoughts. What stands out to me is Bennett's incredible bravery. As a security guard, one might expect him to have a sense of duty, but chasing after William Ray Bonner during such a dangerous situation is truly heroic. Bennett's actions were not just a display of courage but also showed his deep concern for the safety of others. It’s gut-wrenching to think that he lost his life trying to stop a rampage that affected so many. His family and friends must have been devastated by the loss of someone so selfless and protective. This event really emphasizes how ordinary people can find themselves in extraordinary circumstances, making split-second decisions that have profound consequences. Bennett’s legacy, as sad as it is, should be remembered for his courage and willingness to face danger head-on. My heart goes out to his family and to all the victims of that horrific day. Their pain must still echo through the decades.
