It's been haunting me to think about how one wrong address changed everything on that day in August 1984. When the news about Damon Bonner's murder first came out, I remember the community's collective shock and grief. It's deeply upsetting that such young lives were cut short over a mistaken act of gang retaliation. I've been reading about the investigators who worked endlessly on the case and how they managed to piece together the evidence that led to the arrests of Tiequon Cox and Horace Edwin Burns. Despite the cold realities of gang violence, the dedication of these investigators to bring justice to Damon's family is commendable. Thinking about how they unraveled the events leading to that tragic morning shows a relentless pursuit of truth amidst tragedy. Though it doesn't bring back Damon or his loved ones, I hope it provided a small measure of comfort to the family knowing that those responsible were held accountable. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially Kermit Alexander and his family, who had to navigate through such a deep void left by their loss. This case reminds us all of the innocent lives caught in the crossfire of crime and serves as a call to end the cycles of violence in our communities.
