Just before 1 a.m. on July 2, 2023, Alton police answered a 911 call from the 2400 block of Lincoln Avenue. Officers and members of the Cross-River Crimes Task Force arrived within minutes to a scene that would soon be marked by the loss of a 33-year-old male, Nathan A. Brown of Alton. The 33-year-old male victim was found shot and later died; the early-morning quiet of the neighborhood gave way to a large police presence and an investigation that began immediately.
