Has anyone delved into the role the community plays in addressing the ongoing violence affecting local schools? I recently came across the tragic story of Markel Scott, a young man from Excel Academy, who was just weeks away from graduation before his life was cruelly taken. He seemed so driven and hopeful about his future, and it’s gut-wrenching to think that this violence has claimed the lives of others from the same school too. As outsiders, it’s easy for us to comment on systemic issues, but what might be some effective ways communities can support and protect their youth better? Also, it got me wondering how the school is supporting students during such crises. Are there any community-led initiatives in place to address this? Sending much love and strength to Markel’s family, friends, and everyone feeling this immense loss.

Just found out about Markel Scott’s story, and it’s honestly so upsetting to read about what happened to him. I can't even imagine what Markel's mother, Sharonda, and the rest of his family must be going through right now. As someone who's seen too many young dreams get snuffed out by senseless violence, it’s a cruel reminder of how immediate the need is for change in our communities. Markel was so close to graduation and had his whole future ahead of him. It breaks my heart to know he was just trying to make something of himself by going back to school and considering college or the Army. It's just so unfair. What’s really frustrating is that no arrests have been made. Does anyone know if there have been any updates from the police or renewed investigations? I hope his family gets the justice they deserve, though I know it can't bring him back. Sending so much love and support to all his loved ones during this tough time. Let’s hope for a future where our young people get to live out their dreams without fear.
