On July 13, 2015, Steven Line Sr. was killed in Mad River, California, after multiple 911 calls about gunshots around 4:30 PM. Responding officers found two male shooting victims; Line was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was airlifted to a hospital.
Investigators determined there was an active shooter in the area. A deputy linked a vehicle collision on State Route 36 in the Forest Glen area to the shooting. The suspect was described as a male, dark complexion, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160–175 pounds, with short dark curly hair, and identified by the name Scotty. Officers said the suspect stole a car near the shooting, crashed it near Forest Glen, then fled on foot; the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and U.S. Forest Service conducted a joint search.
The community was shaken and authorities provided ongoing updates as they continued to gather evidence and follow leads. If anyone has information about Steven Line Sr. or the person known as Scotty, please share what is known with law enforcement.
