I was reading about Richard Daniel Aukschun's tragic death, and it truly brought to light the risks people face just trying to keep their communities safe. It's so sad when you think about how Richard was simply trying to protect the property on his very first day at work. What kind of world are we living in where someone can lose their life over something as minor as graffiti? The fact that Abraham Soltero was out on probation for vandalism makes this even more frustrating. It's a reminder of how flawed the system can be and why it's vital for improvements to be made in dealing with repeat offenders. My heart goes out to Richard's family and friends who have to live with this senseless loss. I really hope justice is served and that this case pushes for better strategies in combating gang violence. Stay safe out there, everyone.
