Does anyone have more details on the neighborhood watch programs in Historic South-Central LA? I’ve been following the news around Jeronimo Lugo Vasquez’s case and can’t stop thinking about how community efforts might play a role in preventing further tragedies like this. It's deeply upsetting to see another life lost to violence, and I can't imagine the pain his family is going through. Are there any local initiatives in place, or are new ones being considered in light of recent events? It’d be great to hear thoughts from locals or those familiar with similar community efforts.

I actually just posted with case information for Jeronimo. Based on evidence found online it appears that Karon Cann was arrested and charged with Vasquez’s murder but the case was dismissed due to plea bargain and he was ordered to pay 100k restitution in exchange for the dismissal. Because the charge was dismissed the identity of victim has been sealed or redacted from public records. But Vasquez is the only gunshot murder victim on 7/24/19 “without a suspect or person charged” that was publicly announced. The other 4 homicides around or on this date have been solved w/ updates to the public.

Chrisean Rock was attending Santa Monica College at the time and her bf Karon “Ronnie Doe” was in LA with her at the time of the shooting. Chrisean Rock has ties to South Central, and been online speaking of a murder case without disclosing a name. However the age/discription given by Rock and Cann online match Vasquez.

It appears that Cann himself was murdered in 2025 and as far as I can tell that case is unsolved. https://www.aacounty.org/police-department/about-us/news/police-press-release-february-4-2025 https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/288400386/karon_makhai-cann https://crimesolverscentral.com/homicide/176269 Possibly street justice? Who knows.
