Hey everyone. I’ve been thinking a lot about Ernesto Herrera’s tragic passing. It’s been hard not to feel for his family and friends during this time, especially considering the complex issues at play. Being homeless is already incredibly tough, and it breaks my heart that he had to face such violence. I can't help but wonder what led up to that argument on the night of June 24, 2020. What was it that escalated things to such a devastating point where a young man ended up taking another’s life? I also find it deeply concerning how gun violence seems to be a recurring issue in Oakland. It’s sad to think that Ernesto’s life might have been cut short by social circumstances that are so difficult to navigate for many. There’s a whole world behind these headlines, made up of systemic challenges that we need to address. I hope that through understanding and support, we can prevent future tragedies like this. I'm keeping an eye on how the trial unfolds and hope there’s some sense of justice and peace for Ernesto’s loved ones. If anyone has more information or thoughts, I'd love to hear them. It's important that we keep this discussion going.
