Has anyone else been following the case of Ethan Escorcio? I was recently looking into the background and noticed how quickly things escalated that night at the Circle K. It's tragic to think about how such a minor altercation over cigarettes turned fatal. I can't imagine what Ethan's family must be going through, knowing that their son lost his life in such a senseless manner. It’s absolutely heartbreaking for everyone involved. Something that stands out to me is the reliance some people have on firearms as a means of protection or deterrence. I understand wanting to feel safe, especially if thefts have occurred before, but carrying a loaded gun seems like it adds more risk than it mitigates. In moments like these, it feels like there needs to be more conversation about conflict de-escalation and alternatives to lethal force. It's a massive issue and unfortunately one that isn't unique to this case. My thoughts are with Ethan's mother, Carolyn, and all those who loved him. It's a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed forever over what's ultimately a small dispute.
