I’ve been following this case for a while, and I'm still so disturbed thinking about what Yvonne must have gone through. Something that truly stands out to me is how protective orders, supposedly meant to safeguard victims, completely failed her. Despite multiple orders against Enrique, he was still able to get close enough to commit such a horrible act. It makes me question what more could be done to enforce these orders and keep abusers at bay. My heart goes out to Yvonne’s family and especially her son, who had to witness such devastation. It’s terrifying to think that the system meant to protect Yvonne didn’t work. How can we better ensure the safety of domestic violence survivors?
