I've been following the tragic events surrounding New Orleans in 2014, and the case of Floyd Batiste has been especially striking. It's gut-wrenching to think about how frequent these senseless acts of violence were at that time—particularly in specific areas like the 5th and 7th districts. It's frustrating, too, because we often hear about these violent incidents as statistics, but behind each number is a person, like Floyd, with a life and family left grieving.
I hope that with the continued efforts of the NOPD's Cold Case Unit, families can get some semblance of closure. My thoughts are with those who knew Floyd, and all the other individuals who lost someone during that awful time. Does anyone know if there have been any recent developments in the investigations of these cases? I'd love to hear more about the community efforts to address the root causes of such violence.
Has anyone else been following the case of Floyd Batiste? I came across it while trying to understand the troubling surge of violence in New Orleans back in 2014. The fact that his murder is part of a much larger picture of gun violence during that time is so unsettling. It's sad to think about how many families were affected by just a few weeks of violence. I live nearby and remember how tense and worried people were in parts of the city back then, particularly around the 5th and 7th districts. It's really commendable that the Cold Case Unit is revisiting these cases in an attempt to bring justice and closure to the victims’ families, but it’s sobering to think about how these incidents were sometimes overshadowed by the frequency of such tragedies. What's been the community response over the years? Have there been any new developments or community initiatives to curb this kind of violence since then?
