Does anyone else feel like the violence in New Orleans around 2014 was just too much to bear? Thinking about David Turner's case reminds me of how rough it was back then. It seems like African American neighborhoods were especially hit hard, and it's just so difficult to fathom how those communities coped with such persistent threats. The 5th District, the Desire area, St. Roch… they were all so heavily impacted. I keep wondering what specific factors made these areas hotspots and whether anything has improved since then. My heart goes out to David Turner's family and all those affected by the violence during that time. It's just devastating to think about how different life could have been for many families if gun violence wasn't so rampant. If anyone has insights or local knowledge about what changes have been made since, I'd be really interested to hear.
