I recently stumbled upon this tragic case of Patrolman Hugh J. Enright, and it really got me thinking about how quickly things can escalate in the line of duty. What strikes me most is the incredible bravery shown by the officers involved in the pursuit. Even after Enright was shot, another officer didn't hesitate and continued the chase despite the danger he faced. It’s chilling to think about how, even back in 1904, this kind of violence against law enforcement was already a grim reality. There's something particularly haunting about how Enright managed to keep fighting despite his fatal injuries. It's a testament to his dedication and courage. My heart goes out to Enright's family, who had to endure such a tremendous loss. His wife and children must’ve been devastated, and it’s an important reminder of the sacrifices families make too. It's cases like these that underscore the risks officers face daily. Seeing how the community and even a brave citizen jumped in during the aftermath gives me some hope, though. It’s often during the worst of times that we find the strength to come together. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the role that community witnesses play in these situations? How much has changed since then?
