I’ve been following the discussions about Darnell Warren’s case, and something that’s stood out to me is the impact that gun violence has in communities like the Nostrand Houses. It’s hard not to feel for the families living there who just want to be safe in their homes but are faced with the constant threat of violence. Darnell’s family must be struggling not only with their grief but also with the frustration of seeing this preventable tragedy play out in their neighborhood. It’s heartening to see the calls for increased security and community resources. These discussions might hopefully lead to real change and improve safety for residents so they can start to heal. My thoughts are with Darnell’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
