Kenneth Evans was 24 when he was killed on the evening of November 28, 2015, in Brentwood, New York. He was walking with two friends on Gibson Avenue when members of MS-13—reportedly searching for rival gang members—mistakenly identified the group as targets. The assailants opened fire with two handguns; Evans was shot multiple times and died at the scene. One companion was wounded and a third escaped unharmed.

In November 2022 federal prosecutors in Central Islip unsealed a two-count indictment charging three MS-13 members in connection with the killing, a development that moved the case out of a long period without arrests.
