I recently came across Derek Cosme's case and it's truly weighing on my mind. A 15-year-old's life was cut short, and it's frustrating to think how easily this might have been avoided. I'm particularly concerned about the fact that the gun was in a home with teenagers and somehow they got their hands on it. With two former law enforcement officers living there, you would expect a higher standard of gun safety. It makes me wonder about the processes in place for securing firearms, especially in homes with kids around. Was there any sort of gun safe or lock being used? This could have happened to anyone and really hits home how critically important gun safety is. Derek had his whole life ahead of him, and it's just devastating for his family and friends. They're in my thoughts as they navigate through this tough time, and I hope they find the answers they're searching for.
